Brilliant idea: Beijing riders can pay their subway fare by recycling bottles. In contrast, Chicago just rolled out a new fare card system that charges a fee if you don’t use it – not the subway, the card. Of course, it’s lighter than hauling a bag of bottles, but it’s also so 20th Century. I’d like to live in the 21st Century, where innovation and sustainability fuel getting from A to B.
