A great infographic is a thing of wonder. An infographic uses one central arrangement or metaphor to communicate several ideas at once. The most popular example is Minard’s graphic showing Napoleon’s march across Europe (though I always find it fairly incomprehensible). But, too many infoposters get credit for being infographics, which takes the pressure off the infographic designer to find the metaphor. That leads to chart junk.
